The following link should connect you to the recordings of the songs that 4th grade needs in order to practice for their concert. Please choose the Mp3 files. PDF files of the lyrics are available (usually on the last page of each file). I will also put screenshots of the the words below. Please allow the students to look at the words while they practice, as we haven't memorized them yet. cobbk12org-my.sharepoint.com/:f:/g/personal/erin_collins_cobbk12_org/ElW0gD9k7_9LnR3xoWnkHnoBxps52FgSIeGbrpkAffYsJw?e=hHp26Q

Resources and links below. K + 1 options: 1. Freeze Dance. There is a CD set with 70s, 80s and 90s kids covers that are great for freeze dance. 2. 4 Corners- choose one person to be it and have the children sneak to different corners, etc. This is good for getting kiddos to practice soft feet, quiet mouths and self control. 3. Music games on iPads. Kids need to stay off of the internet, but they can access any of the available iPads. The piano apps are a good idea. If they choose the rainbow piano, they can use the color coded song sheets on the back table. 2 + 3 options: 1. Mario Bros. with drum sticks! 2. Scan the QR code for music review and games. They may not know all of the tempo vocab or music symbols, but they should be able to do the rhythms. 3. Music games for free time. Remind them of no internet and not to play with the cameras and voice recorders. It's a privacy issue. 4. They might like to play 4 corners too. 4 + 5 options: Same as above, but students need to practice letter names of lines and spaces with the Flashnote App. There are blue learning aids clipped to the front board. 5th grade needs to pick a book to make musical. The class needs to decide between Pout Pout Fish or Frog in the Bog. It might be worth mentioning to 5th grade that we played instruments and sang with Frog in the Bog, so it should be familiar to them. Plans for grades 3-5: Please show the following video about instrument families. After the video, you can use the instrument families PowerPoint. You'll need to click on the file to download it first and put it in presenter mode. There are directions in the first few slides and sound clips on the slides with questions. Please be sure to label the corners in the room (I usually tape labels on the walls) so students will know which corner to go to for answers. If they get too rowdy, you can have students point to the corners for the answers. After the game, students can play the sorting game, which are the green cards in baggies on top of the piano. In this game, students are to sort the cards according to numbers of syllables in the words and read the rhythms out loud to each other. One of my classes decided to use the cards as a matching game: putting them all face down and flipping over cards to try and match rhythm patterns (the words won't match, but the patterns will). There are enough sets for 9 groups.
Grades K-2: These grades can do a modified instrument families lesson. Have them watch the video below for instruments. They can try some of the ppt as well. Grade 2 can probable handle moving to and from corners. K and 1 might need to hold up numbers of fingers for their answers. You can also have them look at the below file that has school terms and rhythm patters with it. These slides are very similar to what are on the green cards/matching game. They can tell you how many syllables are in the words. The older students can tell you the names of the notes and symbols. Grades 1 and 2 would enjoy the matching game (face down and flipping them over). Kindergarten can try some freeze dance if there is extra time. There are CDs on the bookshelf you can look through.
Welcome to 2022's March Music Madness. This year's brackets are all about Theme Songs! For Round 1, the sweet 16, listen to each paring of videos and vote for your favorite. Category: Vintage TV 1. Brady Bunch vs. 2. Adam's Family 3. Gilligan's Island vs. 4. Sanford and Son Category: Blockbuster Movie Music 1. Star Wars vs. 2. Harry Potter 3. Jurassic Park vs. 4. The Avengers Category: Disney Movies 1. Frozen vs. 2. Encanto 3. The Lion King vs. 4. Aladdin Category: Vintage Cartoons 1. The Flintstones vs. 2. The Jetsons 3. Scooby Doo vs. 4. Spongebob Squarepants I have breakfast duty from 7:15-7:45, station is in front of the Cafeteria double doors closest to the Music room. The schedule for the day is on the board. The following resources are available for you to use for classes. You are welcome to tweak plans as necessary. If you'd like to show a movie to K and 1, feel free to check with the Media Center to see what they have. The DVD player is already set up. Thank you! Grades 3-4: The following videos are for rhythm play alongs. Students will need two drumsticks and a reminder to keep their sticks on their shoulders in resting position when they are not playing. Following them in order will help them as they go from easier to harder. They might get bored after 2, so maybe have them vote on what they'd like to do. After videos, students may play Mary Had a Little Lamb on the iPads using the Piano Infinity app. There are paper copies of the song on the piano bench in the front of the room. They may also play music games on the iPad (sharing with. partners) - no Minecraft and staying away from the internet. Grade 5: I've left The Sound of Music for them to watch. The DVD player is connected to the laptop. This movie actually ties in quite nicely with the social studies standards since it takes place during WWII. Tell students that the movie is set in Austria and occurs during the time that the Nazis come to power and take over Austria. This week they were able to watch a play about the holocaust, so this should be fresh for them. Grade 2: This class may do best with watching some of the STOMP DVD. You can tell them that in the video, everyday objects are used as percussion instruments. They may be able to handle 20 mins. After, feel free to have them use iPads (in partners) for piano playing and music games. Grades K-1: You can try the Avengers or Mario Brothers video with them. The others will be too difficult. They can use the piano app on the iPads (in partners) for Mary Had a Little Lamb. You can encourage them to change the words and make the song about themselves. This last video is a bit. of a challenge. There are pauses between sections and students can use them to think ahead. I have breakfast duty from 7:15-7:45, station is in front of the Cafeteria double doors closest to the Music room. The schedule for the day is on the board. The following resources are available for you to use for classes. You are welcome to tweak plans as necessary. Thank you!

Pass the Love Letter Activity.
Students sit in a circle and pass a pretend valentine around the circle while you play The Marvelettes' song from earlier. When you pause the music, whoever is holding the letter must tap out the syllables of the name of someone they'd like to give a valentine to. For example: 1 tap for Mom, 2 taps for Tommy, etc.
Lastly, kids can play music games on iPads with a partner.
Note, 2nd grade might be more comfortable with the lesson for K and 1. You are welcome to change the lesson to whichever you think will work best. Thank you!
Let's explore ways that we can add musical elements to a story. We can add instrument sounds and even sing parts of the text. Watch this video So Much Snow, by Robert Munsch and notice the ways that music is added. Can you think of more ways we can make this musical? Be ready to add instruments and your voice!
The Recorder Karate Flipgrid is now open and available for 4th and 5th grade students to begin earning their Recorder Karate belts! Please choose Recorder Karate on the top menu bar and follow the drop down menu to Level I. Please keep in mind that the videos you record will not appear until I view them and approve. Good Luck!
It's that time again! 5th graders will work in groups to complete a unit on Jazz Music that blends our music and social studies standards in a cool and meaningful way. Students will be able to choose their final learning product and share it virtually with students from other classes. Click the link below to get started:
